Review Cheap Pioneer Home Theater Receiver

I really don't understand how people can complain that this Pioneer Home Theater Receiver is lacking certain features. If it doesn't have features you want, buy something else. Also, it's a good idea to look at the user manual from the manufacturer's website before purchasing, to be sure it has what you want. That way there will be no surprises. I do understand 1 star for those unfortunate reviewers who got stuck with lemons. I wasn't personally looking for too much from a receiver, just wanted to hook up a budget 5.1 system in my family room. For around $550 I got this Pioneer Home Theater Receiver, Jamo C400 center, 4 Monoprice 8" 3-way in-walls and Polk PSW10 sub. This receiver has performed just great, there are a lot settings to allow you to adjust the sound to your taste or you can just let the Pioneer Home Theater Receiver decide, sit back and enjoy!

Pioneer VSX-919AH-K 120 Watts A/V Receiver with Full Color GUI/OSD, Advanced MCACC and Analog to HDMI Up-Conversion (Black)

Pioneer VSX-919AH-K

I bought this unit for a few reasons.

First and foremost, I needed a more powerful receiver with HDMI inputs. I got that. It has lots of power. True rating (from the manual) is 90 watts full bandwidth with nice low THD. Those in the know understand that 90 full bandwidth watts is plenty.

Secondly, I needed the unit to pass through the signal to a couple of secondary amplifiers. I have outdoor speakers, tactile transducers, 5.1 in the living-room and a couple of stereo speakers in the music room. So... I needed the 7.1 PLUS an output to hook up to additional amplifiers.

Unfortunately, the "Zone 2" feature that I assumed would fulfill this need does not. It cannot output to zone 2 ANY digital signals. IPOD, HDMI, Digital audio... NOPE. RCA cables and Tuner are the only way to get sound into the zone 2. I confirmed this with Pioneer support.

So instead of putting an extra few bucks into a digtal to analog converter so that Zone 2 WORKS>... they skimped.. Surprising really.

All that said - the sound quality is great, the features are great. Setup is kind of a PITA - but it's a pretty complicated setup that I run. Most setups are probably pretty simple.

Also - if you plan on hooking up a hard drive to the USB connector at the front - be warned that you HAVE to have it in FAT32 format NHTS format isn't recognized.
